Building a Future

Al-Manahil Association for Women’s Development aims to promote community recovery and the integration of vulnerable groups in Basra through its “Building the Future” project. The project includes several activities such as equipping ten emerging women’s settlement activists with the necessary skills to enhance their capacities, holding weekly group discussions with 10 participants each to discuss various thematic topics , conducting four policy training workshops for women interested in politics or executive positions, preparing three women to become professional and certified babysitters, building leadership and peacebuilding skills for 10 and 15 emerging leaders, respectively, and targeting 200 participants in the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence. The project aims to empower women and improve their social and economic conditions while promoting peacebuilding and community integration .

Main project activities

  1. Training Workshop for Women Peace Activists This activity aims to empower 10 emerging women peace activists by developing skills in advocacy, community organizing, and policymaking. A local coalition will be formed, with follow-up support provided throughout the project.
  2. Women’s Talks : Women peace activists will conduct two days of group discussions on topics related to the women, peace, and security agenda, benefiting 50 participants. This activity will take place in the fifth month of the project.
  3. Women in Politics Training Workshops: Four sessions will be held to equip women aspiring to political or leadership positions with skills in leadership, public speaking, and political campaign design. The workshops will be held during the sixth and seventh months of the project.
  4. Hairdressing and Beauty Training Course This activity aims to enhance the income-generating capabilities of 10 women through vocational training in hairdressing and beauty, in partnership with the Directorate of Sports and Youth. It will be implemented during the ninth month of the project.
  5. Women’s Leadership Training Workshop : This workshop aims to enhance the leadership skills of 10 emerging leaders, focusing on negotiation, women’s leadership, Agenda 1325, and gender-based violence. It will take place during the third and fourth months of the project.
  6. Peacebuilding Training Workshop : This workshop will develop the peacebuilding skills of 10 emerging leaders to increase their impact in reducing violent extremism and building trust across communities. It will be implemented during the eighth month of the project.
  7. Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence: An awareness-raising campaign led by women peace activists and participants in the Women’s Leadership Workshop will raise awareness about gender-based violence and the women, peace, and security agenda. The campaign will take place during the tenth and eleventh months of the project .
