About Us

AL-Manahil Association for Women Development was founded in 2006 as an independent non-governmental not-for-profit organization, initiative by a number of (women/females) Iraqi activists based in Basra-Iraq. Our Organization has been registered at the NGO's directorate in Baghdad under chapter 1O75162 as well as in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in order to provide help and reduced the suffering of Iraqi women under the harsh conditions experienced by Iraq

Our Mission


Mission statement


   AAWD takes into account the disseminate awareness and promote women's rights as human rights. It’s the elimination of all forms of discrimination, violence and persecution against them, and also to provide protection and support legal and solidarity among women and with them.


Moreover AAWD seeks to develop women capabilities, skills and knowledge, to empower them through provide opportunities to live well, to gain the skills, know their rights and determine their needs and how to defend them.


AAWD encourages women to contribute to the decision-making in the family and society through the achievement of justice and increase their participation in civic and political public life.



Goals


 - Awareness and strengthen the capacities of women to know about the basic rights under the international human rights conventions, especially those related to women's rights, the constitution and laws in the Iraqi constitution.


-Strengthening and empowerment women through training and educational programs of different cultural and humanitarian activities, promotion of the culture of Human Rights, Gender Equality, tolerance and social peace, providing psycho-social assistance and training courses to vulnerable people, so that they can participate efficiently in public life.


 -Develop the skills of women, especially young leaders in local communities through awareness and training programs and various activities especially in the field of the use of information and communication technology and social media.


-Monitoring and documenting violations of women's rights and follow-up


=Provide information and various services, legal and social support in the field of counseling, assistance and rehabilitation of women victims of human rights violations, especially victims of violence and women with special needs.


-Contribute to the development efforts, and promote the participation of women in public, cultural and economic life.


Methodology (policy)


  AL-Manahil( AAWD) seeks to maintain the spirit of volunteerism and civil work, depending on their training programs learning methodology( policy) through constructive discussions and dialogue, participation, monitoring and analysis needs, as well as adopt the principle of accountability and transparency in its activities and dealings with others, and in its relations and internal work within the association. AAWD seeks to root women's rights with recognized them under the international conventions attribution to religious and social values and cultural components of the Iraqi society.


 Al-Manahil (AAWD )has established a multi-layer control and monitoring procedure in order to maintain a proper accountability and transparency at all levels of management.


 AL-Manahil (AAWD ) since its establishment, confirmed its identity to work for all Iraqis without discrimination. In addition, the composition of its founders and its board members has reflected the variety of ethnicity, religious and gender balance.




Target Groups


  The Association offers its services and objectives to the community in general, men and women, young and old, with a focus on women in rural and remote areas, women of IDPs, vulnerable, local women leaders, young girls, older women, women with special needs, heads of households, creative, civil society organizations, researchers, students, refugee, informative, women victims of violence, women and children victims of human rights violations.
